{"id":149,"date":"2006-12-12T17:13:33","date_gmt":"2006-12-13T00:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scoobr.com\/niblettes_old\/2006\/12\/12\/the-complexities-of-style\/"},"modified":"2021-06-12T03:37:31","modified_gmt":"2021-06-12T03:37:31","slug":"the-complexities-of-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.scoobr.com\/niblettes_old\/2006\/12\/12\/the-complexities-of-style\/","title":{"rendered":"The Complexities of Style"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here is another example of the stylists aesthetic of complexity&#8211;as opposed to the designer&#8217;s philosophy of simplicity (check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scoobr.com\/niblettes_old\/2006\/10\/20\/stylists-designers\/\">Stylists != Designers<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.idiagram.com\/CP\/cpprocess.html\" target=\"complexity\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.scoobr.com\/niblettes_old\/wp-images\/inline\/complexity.gif\"><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>This is a gorgeous diagram, filled with nuanced shadings, a subtle and tasteful color palette (I especially like the orange and green combination), captivating visual patterns, and seductive symetries.  Its also an excersize is specious visual meaninglessness and obfuscating info-decoration.  What does this thing mean?!  <\/p>\n<p>Oh, and it has 14 different rolleover states that magnify and highlight different areas with explosions of seeming information.  Information like &#8220;[t]here is a vacuum of solid evidence into which can rush our most troublesome weaknesses as human decision-makers.&#8221;  Yikes.  Sounds heavy.  And sounds a hell of a lot more complicated than its needs to be&#8211;which is exactly what the stylist&#8217;s aethetic of complexity is all about.<\/p>\n<p>This diagram illustrates a basic design process, and is perhaps the most attractive, most complicated and least intelligeble representations of a design process I&#8217;ve ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>I do love the irony of the company&#8217;s tag line: &#8220;The Art of Complex Problem Solving&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is another example of the stylists aesthetic of complexity&#8211;as opposed to the designer&#8217;s philosophy of simplicity (check out Stylists != Designers).
